The estate

Geographical location :

fontaine_st_leon.jpgOur estate is located in the heart of Eguisheim. Eguisheim is a beautiful village, on the wine route, to the south of Colmar. It is a medieval village, built with 3 surrounding walls around the castle. Pope Leo IX was born here in 1002.
In 2005, the town was elected one of the most beautiful villages in France and in 2006 one of the most beautiful villages in Europe. Eguisheim is an attractive and dynamic village where you can discover Alsace, and where many events are organized.

Our estate is in the centre of the village opposite the church. The bell tower dates back to 1220.
Our buildings are joined to the rampart and there is a loophole 2m deep.
We welcome visitors into our courtyard, which dates back to the XVth and XVIth centuries.

The vineyards :

rangen.jpgsurface.jpgThe vineyards cover 6 ha, of which 33 ares are Pfersigberg Grand Cru and 1 ha Rangen Grand Cru in Thann. The other vineyards are located around the estate.
We produce 7 Alsace grape varieties and Crémant d’Alsace (sparkling wine).
We have planted only Gewürztraminer on the Pfersigberg Grand Cru stope. It is the best wine for these steep hillsides, which are very sunny. The Pfersigberg slopes were already mentioned in the XVIth century in a contract drawn up between the Lords and the local convents.
The Rangen Grand Cru slope has been planted with Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. The Rangen vineyard faces south and has a 45° slope. It is a unique vineyard with its volcanic soil. In the XIIth century the pilgrim monks who visited the Thann collegiate alrealy praised Rangen.

Moderate cultivation :

We practice moderate cultivation in our vineyard. This means that as far as possible, we avoid chemical intervention. We prefer to use mechanical or manual methods, which delay or reduce the use of chemical products to counter diseases. Weeds grow between the rows, and we only use horse dung to enrich the soil. As we work, we respect the environment. We are not hindered by various charters and always hope to improve our work with these aim in mind.

All the grapes are picked by hand, in order to preserve their quality (the result of a whole year’s work). We endeavour to produce wine from grapes and not as a result of pure oenology. We work in the cellar with the same aim as in the vineyard.
